On Saturday, January 31st, Shakur Stevenson challenged Teofimo Lopez for Lopez’s WBO and Ring Magazine 140-pound titles. This was Stevenson’s first fight at 140 after being a champ at 126,130, and 135.

The Newark, New Jersey native was able to dominate Teofimo Lopez from start to finish. He won by unanimous decision, all three judges agreed on the score of 119-109, which means each judge scored it 11 rounds to 1 for Stevenson.

Stevenson outclassed Lopez in every way outside of the ring entrance. Lopez did his dancing on the way to the ring while Stevenson danced circles around Lopez in the ring. Teofimo Lopez had no answer for Stevenson’s jab.

Stevenson was able to counter with the jab. He consistently caught Lopez on the way in with his jab. Stevenson was also able to lead with the jab. Stevenson’s right fist made itself at home on Lopez’s face. Shakur also switched up his attack to deal with any counters that Lopez may have had in mind.

After outclassing the top ranked 140-pounder in the world, what’s next for Shakur Stevenson? Let’s talk about his options.

Conor Benn

After the fight, Stevenson called out Conor Benn. Benn got in the ring and they exchanged words. Benn is 24-1 with 14 wins by knockout. In his last bout he defeated Chris Eubank Jr by unanimous decision.

There must be a lot of money in a Conor Benn fight because he does not have the resume for Shakur Stevenson to be calling him out. From a legacy standpoint, this makes no sense for Stevenson. Stevenson would be a heavy favorite and most likely win by wide unanimous decision or a late stoppage.

Gary Antuanne Russell

Gary Antuanne Russell is the WBA champion at 140 pounds with a record of 18-1 with 17 knockouts. He is a very physical boxer who loves to fight on the inside. He has the style that may give Stevenson trouble and will pique the interest of boxing fans.

Russell has a match against Andy Hiroka on Feburary 21st. If he is able to win in a way that is pleasing to the eye. He could find himself as a high priority option for Stevenson.

Raymond Muratalla

If Shakur Stevenson is interested in going back down to 135 pounds, there are a lot of interesting fights that can be made. Raymond Muratalla will have lots of opportunities coming his way after his win over the highly touted Andy Cruz.

Muratalla defeated Cruz to become the IBF champion at 135 bringing his record to 24-0 with 17 knockouts. In his win over Cruz, Muratalla showed that he has the ability to box with the best of the best. It would be an interesting bout against Stevenson, if it happens.

Floyd Schofield

Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield were set to fight in Feburary of last year but Schofield became ill and had to step aside. Stevenson went on to fight Josh Padley as a replacement and win by knockout.

Schofield recovered and took on former world champion Tevin Farmer in June of 2025 and won via a very impressive first round knockout. Schofield is now 19-0 with 13 knockouts. The Jersey City, New Jersey native has the type of power where one mistake can lead to a knockout. That always makes for an interesting fight.

This fight could also be for a vacant belt as Schofield is the number one ranked contender in the WBA 135-pound rankings where Gervonta Davis is the champion. Davis may have to vacate that belt due to his issues outside of the ring.

Devin Haney

Shakur Stevenson would have to move up to 147 pounds to fight Conor Benn but the better fight in that weight class would be Devin Haney. Stevenson and Haney have both been at the top of the mountain and want to fight the best of the best.

Haney is 33-0 with 15 knockouts and one no-contest. Haney is constantly reminded of the no-contest because it was initially a loss to Ryan Garcia where Haney was knocked down three times. Defeating Stevenson would be a huge step in truly putting the Ryan Garcia fight behind him.

Haney has won twice after the Garcia fight including a win to become a champion at 147. This would be a huge legacy and money fight for both Haney and Stevenson. Stevenson could be a champion in five different weight classes, which would put him in a very exclusive club.

Who do you want to see Shakur Stevenson fight next? Is there anyone out there who can beat him?
